Born and raised into a military family my residency changed quite frequently, from Annapolis to Paris France, Camp Pendleton, CA, Quantico, VA and back to Annapolis.
I became interested in the marine industry during my junior year at Annapolis High School. After attending both private and public schools, I started working at various marinas from Baltimore, Washington DC, Eastern Shore to Annapolis.
My marine experience literally started from the bottom up - sanding, painting, cleaning and gradually progressed into the technical aspects of marine repair: electrical, mechanical, electronics and underwater maintenance.
I established my first local marine service business in 1981 which was located at Bert Jabin Yacht Yard. I then moved onto a new marine business venture in 1991 opening "Diversified Marine Services Inc. and Annapolis Diving Contractors". As of early 2009, "Annapolis Diving Contractors" was sold to focus on the growth and development of Diversified Marine Services, Inc.
Although we are in a economic recession, Diversified Marine Services Inc. continues to educate our full time staff, hire highly skilled technicians that are out of work, increase tooling and add new service vehicles to the fleet.
Our personnel include ABYC certified technicians, Raymarine factory trained technicians, boat builders, Awlgrip applicators, Mechanical-Electrical engineers, carpenters, fiberglass and gel coat specialists. From
spring commissioning, to winterization, to a complete yacht restoration and re-fit, Diversified Marine Services, Inc. will be happy to provide you with all your
yacht maintenance and repair needs.
Our goal is to bring affordable marine repairs, installations and restoration to the Annapolis area while maintaining the highest degree of skill, experience and professionalism.

I graduated from the Calhoun MEBA Engineering School in 1979 with my USCG Marine Engineers License. It was a 3 year trade
apprenticeship program run by the Marine Engineers Beneficial Association, the oldest union in the USA.
After graduating I moved to New Orleans where I worked as a licensed Marine Engineering Officer aboard US flag merchant ships
until 2006, when I retired. In the early years between jobs aboard ships, I also worked at Avondale Shipyard as a Ship
Operating Engineer, commissioning newly built vessels,
in the Gulf of Mexico oil field aboard drill ships and support vessels and on various boats on the Mississippi River.
The last 15 years I was Permanent First Engineering Officer and Relieving Chief Engineer on the M/V Sulphur Enterprise, a
600 ft long fully automated, diesel powered molten sulphur tanker. During all that time I took many courses and attended
seminars on all aspects of the maritime industry. Some fields covered include electrical, electronics, automation and
computers, diesels, air conditioning and refrigeration.

I was born and raised on a beautiful farm in Crownsville, MD and having grown up in the Annapolis area, I fell in love with boats at a very early age. I loved boats of all shapes and sizes. I can remember many summer days on the Severn river watching all the many different types of boats come and go. No doubt about it... I was hooked to the lure of boating from the very first time I stepped into an old wooden row boat and we pushed off the beach.
During my college years I bounced back and forth between Marine Biology and Art, two very different educational paths. I was taking courses at both AACC and UMBC when I decided to get into graphic design. It was great because it allowed me to use my creativity but I have always worked with my hands and sitting in front of a computer was not where I wanted to be in life.
After about 4 years I decided to make a change and took a job with Performance Cruising in Annapolis in March of 2000. In the ten and a half years that I worked there, I learned many things about the construction of boats. I was fortunate enough to work very closely with the designer of the Gemini Catamaran. I spent time learning how to build molds, how to lay-up fiberglass, wood working, installing electrical and plumbing systems, trouble shooting, gel coat repair and even a little bit of designing and building of my own. The last 6 years of my time with PCI were spent training new employees, developing new procedures, managing the production schedule as well as research & development. I am extremely grateful for the experiences I've had, as they have given me a very strong background and understanding in boat construction, systems and design.
I am very excited to be starting a new chapter in my life with Diversified Marine Services! As the name implies, the "Diversity" of work that comes with my new career at Diversified is a welcome challenge and one that I look forward to jumping into. I'm excited to learn new skills as well as bring my own set of skills and experience to the table in order to provide the very highest quality of work and service to our clients.
I was born and raised in Queens, NY and spent a lot of time going out on a family friends boat fishing off of Jones Beach and around it's various bays. I have always been drawn to the water and it's inhabitants and spent my summers on Eastern Long Island playing on and in Long Island Sound.
During my time at Southampton College, where I obtained my BS degree in Marine Biology, I was employed at the college's marine field station where I helped to maintain the school's two 42' research vessels and it's various small craft used for field research. While in school, I was a participant in the SEAmester program aboard the 131' Schooner Harvery Gamage where we sailed over 3000 miles in 2 months visiting a dozen Caribbean Islands and sailed up the US East Coast to Greenport, Long Island while taking a full college course load.
During one summer break I worked for NOAA aboard two of their research vessels sailing in the Bering Sea, Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. Another one of my summers was spent working for a sailing school in Sag Harbor, NY where I assisted in teaching and customer orientation before charters.
After graduating from college, I worked for SUNY Stony Brook aboard their 80' research vessel which was a converted commercial groundfish fishing vessel. Aboard the vessel I helped in the maintenance and operation of the vessel and assisted in the various research projects involving groundfish surveys off the coast of New Jersey and in Ambrose Channel in NYC. I later moved up to New Hampshire to work at a commercial marine fish hatchery that produced over one million fingerlings a year. After a short time I became the hatchery manager and was in charge of the facility including various plumbing and electrical systems for several recirculating aquaculture systems of over 20,000 gallons each.
My wife and I moved down to Maryland after her acceptance into a masters degree program. Upon moving, I started working for Performance Cruising where I started by performing the final systems checks and inspections of the vessels before they left the factory. After some time, I started installing the interior woodwork and electrical systems into the vessel including various electronics and optional equipment. The shutting down of the factory is what has brought me here to Diversified Marine Services where I can use the various skills I have learned through my experiences on the various projects that we cover. I am also an avid sailor on the bay that sails aboard a vessel that won High-Point last year, coming in second this year and was nominated as "Boat of the Year" last year for Wed night races.
Certifications:
- USCG 100-ton Inland Masters License

I grew up on the Shenandoah river, on a small farm in northern Virginia. I became interested in woodworking and everything
mechanical as a child working with my grandfather in his shop building and repairing things for pay at the age of ten.
My interest in boats started with my first trip down river on an old tandem canoe. Later I was able to work on a river boat
in Laughlin NV as a deck hand where I was given my first introduction to marine mechanics. I was soon trusted with all of
the boats maintenance needs.
While in NV I began to study the art of boat building hoping to someday build a boat of my own. That dream was realized a
few years later while I had my own woodworking business in Baltimore. I ended up building two boats for myself and several
others for customers.
During this time I acquired my first project boat, a 46' cold molded cutter which I have lovingly restored over the past
three years. In 2008 I went to work for e yacht builders, and quickly earned the position of lead boat wright in charge
of all phases of the construction of their 33' day sailors.
I have become an avid sailor of the Chesapeake and I am now beginning to learn of the joys of motor cruising as well, as
I have recently acquired a 1961 55' Chris Craft Constellation which is home for myself and my family. I have only recently
begun working for Diversified Marine in December of 2009. I was drawn to this company by their impeccable reputation and
the quality of their work. I have already learned a great deal from my esteemed coworkers and hope to get my ABYC
certifications very soon.
I grew up sailing Sunfish and Hobies on Barnegat Bay. Around '91 I decided to turn a hobby into a career performing
maintenance, repairs and upgrades of yachts.
After years of servicing most of the different systems that can be found on a boat, rebuilding more toilets than I care
to remember and installing very sophisticated electronics on many yachts around the Chesapeake region, I have come to
the best marine maintenance and repair shop in Maryland, Diversified Marine Services.
Here I hope to continue to make the world a better place by making each yacht I work on better.
